PTA Committee Descriptions Accelerated

Box Top: Crops, counts, and sends in box tops. Holds class contests at different times of the year.

Carnival: Plans and sets up the carnival.  This year will be a fall carnival.

Cultural Arts: Facilitates bringing a variety of cultural programs to the students.

Diversity Fair: Gets information on our assigned country and plans/sets up the booth.

Environmental/Recycle: 
The Environmental chairman develops programs and projects that will enhance the beauty of the school and community. The chairman promotes environmental education, publicizes and promotes student participation in Texas PTA Beautification Award, Texas PTA Green School Award and Texas PTA Environmental Awareness Contest.

Educational:  Promotes parent education by working with others in the community. The chairperson makes information available on and promotes programs and projects dealing with issues affecting children and youth and which help parents become more actively involved in all areas of concern. The chairperson promotes parent education study courses and encourages application for the Parent Education Award.

Fundraiser: Coordinates the fall brochure fundraiser. Committee & board will work together to collect, count, and order the fundraiser items, and distribute them in December.

Health & Safety: Coordinated activities for 'Red Ribbon Week' (end of Oct.) & health programs.

Hospitality: Coordinate teacher luncheons, special meals, and board hospitality.

Library: Helps the librarian track AR points and distributes prizes.

Membership/Directory: Distributes membership forms to all families, and encourages everyone to join the Rustic Oak PTA. Holds membership drives and contests to increase membership.  Compiles student information into a book and distributes the book to those who have ordered it.

Nature Center: Cares for the nature center, weeding, planting, fertilizing...

Parent Involvement: Plans 2-3 programs for after school/evenings to involve parents in their children's lives and education.  (Speakers, activities, meals...)

POPS in PTA: Currently coordinates the Breakfast with Santa in December.

Publicity:  Submits articles and pictures regarding Local PTA events and issues to local media reporters and the school district public relations officer.  Update the website, send weekly e-Newsletters, and publish information from our committees to the monthly Rustic Oak  Gazette.

Parent Involvement: Plans 2-3 programs for after school/evenings to involve parents in their children's lives and education. (Speakers, activities, meals...)

Reflections:
The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: literature, musical composition, photography, the visual arts, dance choreography, and film/video.

Supplies: Distributes information about buying school supplies through the school, collects orders, and helps distribute the orders a few days before school starts.

Semester Awards: Coordinates/plans the award ceremonies.

Spirit Shirts: Get quotes for screen printed or embroidered polo shirts, sells shirts to Rustic Oak parents/students, collect money, order shirts, and distributes.

Supplies: Distributes information about buying school supplies through the school, collects orders, and helps distribute the orders a few days before school starts.


V.I.P.: Coordinates volunteer schedules, calls volunteers throughout the year for different school activities, and tracks volunteer hours.  The Volunteer chairperson coordinates PTA volunteer activities in the school in cooperation with school staff.  The chairperson encourages participation by parents and interested citizens in the school program through volunteerism and encourages application for the TEPSA/TASSP Parent Involvement Award

Yearbook: Works with a yearbook company to compile pictures and information for the yearbook. The Yearbook chairperson compiles and arranges for publication of yearbook, handbook or directory for the Local PTA’s members. The purpose of the yearbook is to give relevant facts and figures about the Local PTA.
 

Other Events/Projects for which the PTA coordinates:

Scholarship: Distributes Rustic Oak Scholarship information to the High School. Works with the district board to choose district scholarship winners, and with the Rustic Scholarship committee to choose RO's scholarship recipient.

Swap Shop:
Helps at the PTA sponsored dress code clothing exchange (Jr. High West) on the last Tuesday night of each month (afternoon or evening).

Testing Snacks: Buys snacks for TAKS testing days.
