The goal of the Environmental Committee is to raise awareness of and participation in activities and events that preserve, protect and improve our local and global surroundings.

Recycling Results:        $ Money Earned 2008-2009

Volunteer Opportunity:  We are seeking volunteers to help once a week with campus paper recycling, once a month to help with recycling drives, and at various times during the year to help promote awareness information.  Also, please contact environmental@pta.org if you have a truck and trailer available to use to transport recyclables after our monthly recycling drives.

This Year's Plans:

Rustic Oak PTA has planned monthly recycle drives as a campus wide service project and fundraiser for PTA.  We will be collecting aluminum, paper and printer cartridges/used electronics. Here is a list of suggested items to bring:
Aluminum cans
Aluminum tires
Miscellaneous aluminum items (metal that a magnet will not stick to)
Newspaper
Junk Mail
Collapsed cardboard boxes
Magazines
Phone books
Printer cartridges
Used cell phones

Please separate items by aluminum, paper and cartridges/electronics. Our goal is to promote participation in environmental awareness efforts and earn money to benefit our school. The money earned from aluminum and paper will be used to fund teacher mini-grant requests for educational supplies. The money earned from the cartridges/electronics will be used by the technology department.

We will send out e-mail reminders and display a banner 1 week before the recycle drive to remind everyone. However, we will no longer send home the recycle slip that we did the last couple of years. No need to count cans or submit names. Just bring your recyclables to help the environment and earn money for the school. The drop-off location will be next to the bus circle drop-off line between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. You may pull over to the side and we will have people there to collect your items.

Let's Go Rustic Recyclers !!!

WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE MONEY RAISED FROM RECYCLE? WE USE IT FOR TEACHER MINI-GRANTS!
Mini grants are a request from teachers to the PTA for monies to supplement or augment the supplies needed in their classrooms for instruction. These mini grants are funded by the dollars we receive from the recycling program at Rustic Oak Elementary. We need your support for the recycling program! Please let your friends, neighbors and businesses know! The funds generated by recycling will go back into the classrooms to help all students at Rustic Oak with their education! It’s a win-win for everyone, our students, teachers and the earth! Feel free to contact me for any further information/questions concerning this program. Thank you and keep recycling!!
